Day 2 - Monday 2nd August
All participants arrived ...
9.00am - All participants arrived at the clubhouse for the opening of Oceania day where Gill made a presentation and Anna from Australia provided biscuits and sweets from Australia. We had a quiz in groups on the presentation with cool Oceania specific prizes for the winners like New Zealand playing shirts and Koala teddies.
10.00am - We began the coaching workshop lead by Gill. We split into our working groups and played 'Snowflake' to show us the importance of communication in coaching. Some groups did really well, others did were not as successful! In our groups we were given different coaching tasks with each person with a different role coaching the rest of the youth promoters.
12.00pm - Norman took over the second part of the coaching workshop where each group designated a 'head coach' and 'assistant coach' and had to create a coaching plan based on certain areas of 3D skills. All players and coaches rotated giving everyone a chance. This is where we found out who plays and who doesn't!!
14.00pm - Kristina from Bulgaria kicked off with the presentations about their system of hockey tournaments. Then Daniel from Germany spoke about the organization of the new hockey field of his club. The guys from Qatar spoke about their program 'Aiming for 1000 feet'. Martin from Czech Republic talked about co-operation with schools and young teams. Then Mark from Netherlands showed us his board game for young people to learn the rules. With the break over, we soon get started again with the presentations of Pakkimol from Thailand who informed us about the 'Hockey day' for the youth that takes place in her country. Lukasz from Poland then gave us a small insight to the Youth Hockey Festival and how it has changed over the past few years. And the last of the presentations Anna from Australia gave us an insight to 'Walk and Talk Hockey'.
15.00pm - Earlier than planned, Secretary of the FIH youth panel Becca Daniels introduced herself and gave an introduction to they FIH youth panel and how it runs. Norman then gave a workshop on European and Continental Youth Panels where we got into geographic groups and brainstormed the feasibility of a European Youth Panel and a Continental Youth Panel. All of the European representatives suggested that the Youth Panel would be an amazing idea, so with the ideas we came up with, up to 6 representatives will be selected to go to Brussels and put ideas forward to the Executive board of the European Hockey Committee.
16.00pm - With the content of the day over, we brought a closing to the Oceania day with presentations to the winners of the quiz earlier (Congratulations Group 4) and the runners up (group 1) who received Australia and New Zealand tee shirts and a pen. Anna from Australia also gave out koala key rings and kangaroo clips. Fantastic work Anna! Because of the early finish, some of the young leaders had a dip in the club pool before being picked up by their host families.
We look forward to more fun tomorrow!
