WorldHockey Youth Promoters Festival

Day 3 - Tuesday 3rd August

Today it's Asia day

Today it's Asia day so we started with a presentation about Asia. The promoters from Asia also taught us how to say “Hello” or greet us in their language. So for Hong Kong it would be Neihou. They also brought in a variety of home cooked Asian food for us to sample.

After that we started the second group of presentations. There were some really interesting presentations from different people. Rachel, from England, told us what young people can do for the sport. Rinky, from Hong Kong, told us something about the challenges they face in getting people involved.

Others who presented today included Jamie, on his role as Welsh Activator, Nicole spoke about the 3000-50-10 programme in Sweden, Timothy from Hong Kong spoke about the challenges in getting development going. Morgan spoke about getting more girls hockey played in her local town in the USA, whilst Mateusz from Poland told us how he was using visualization to improve his clubs drag flicking. Lorna from Scotland discussed prmoting local hockey and Giacomo from Italy spoke about On Romey's way cup, a new tournament. Ivo from Germany spoke about is work in antidoping, Gavin spoke about hockey in Dundee.

All the presentations were very interesting in their own way, and the variety of presentations highlighted the work occurring around the world.

After the presentation we had a break before staring the umpiring workshop. At the umpiring workshop we were organized into three groups. Every group were given a task to perform. The first group looked at what equipment the umpire needs, the second group were looking at what makes a good umpire and the third group decided the rules for that afternoon’s tournament. Every group presented it to the whole group to ensure everyone know what was involved in the afternoons activity. We had a tournament director, who identified the match schedule, and allocated roles for the team not playing. They all took on the roles of umpire, time keeper, technical official and first aid. After the tournament we did an evaluation with praise given to the tournament director, all the umpires and all the other people involved.

At the end of the day the finalists for the presentations were announced. The judges commented on the tough competition and the hard decision to be made.

The finalists are:
Rachel Williams from England
Jamie Hooper From Wales
Nicole Carlsson from Sweden
Pakkaoi Sirwat from Thailand
Rinky See Wai Ki from Hong Kong
Lukasz Brzykcy from Poland and
Mark van den Hove from Netherlands

To finish the day we walked to the Champions trophy to catch the end of the Australia England Match, to watch the New Zealand Netherlands Game and have a discussion with Peter von Reth, FIH Umpires Manager.
