The EHF Executive Board announced today that for the first time in EuroHockey tournament history, prize money will be awarded to the winners and runners up of the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup, Women, 2013. The EHCCC is the premier club hockey Tournament for the top 8 women’s clubs in Europe. Based on rankings earned in the competition over the past 3 years.

Round 1 and 2 will be played at UHC Hamburg, Germany from March 29th – April 1st with the Final being played during the EHL Final 4 19/20 May 2013, venue to be confirmed. At the recent EHF Board meeting in Brussels, the Board came to this important decision after an unanimous recommendation from the Outdoor Competitions Committee. EHCCC has always been considered by the EHF Board as ‘the road to EHL for women’ and in order to consolidate this view the Executive Board approved a prize of €5,000 for the EHCCC2013 Champions and €2,000 for the runners up.

On making the announcement of the prize fund the President of the EHF, Marijke Fleuren said “Women’s hockey in Europe is going from strength to strength. EHL has set a high bar for hockey worldwide with such a good organization around it and recognition for the players on a global scale. This is the bar that we in the EHF like to set also for the women in our clubs that dedicate themselves to top hockey. We as a Board believe in the development and promotion of the women’s game and this prize fund is another step on the road to EHL for women.”
