The second match of today was Pakistan against Holland. The dutch team had just missed the semi-finals and is now playing for places 5-8.

Both teams started very defensive, but Holland had the first two chances. A corner by Taekema was saved and a great pass by de Nooijer couldn't be reached by anyone and went wide. Pakistan was the team that opened the goal scoring. In the 10th minute Pakistan took the lead through Abbasi who deflected a dummied drag-flick at a short corner into the goal. Pakistan played with increased confidence and created a few chances out of the open play.

At the end of the first half Holland increased the tempo, but again, a deflected pass by de Nooijer couldn't be reached by anyone, and Ahmad saved one Taekema's corners fantastic. Pakistan showed Holland how to find the net. A drag-flick by Abbas was saved by Vogels, but somehow the ball dropped over the goal line. 2:0 for Pakistan. Holland was shocked.

The second half started like the first one ended; with a shock for Holland. Butt dribbled against two dutch players, found Zubair, who hit the ball with a reverse stick shot into the back of the net, 3:0 in the 36th minute.

Holland started aggressive attacks now. And one of them found the goal in the 42nd minute. Shot by Hoyng was saved by Ahmad, but Reckers managed to push the rebound over the line, 3:1.

The second goal for Holland was scored by Taekema in the 46th minute. His drag-flick went into the top left corner of the goal. No chance for the keeper.

The match increased its level of intensity. A saved Abbas corner ended with heavy discussion between the two teams due to the fact that Abbas's hit a ball towards the goal after the umpire had blown the whistle. Holland won a corner in the last 20 seconds but Taekema's flick was saved by the keeper and the rebound came to nothing. The game was over and Holland will now play for place 7-8.

A deserved win for Pakistan since Holland from time to time gave the impression to suffer from a lack of motivation. The dutch side only showed their technical abilities at the end of the match. The dutch hockey legend Delmee got his 350th cap today, but despite that impressive figure he won't keep this World Cup in good memories.
