QUALIFICATION

Australia as 2004 Olympic gold medallist and the actual World Cup runner-up to Germany received the ticket for Mönchengaldbach after winning the final against New Zealand 5:1 at the qualifying tournament the Oceania Cup in 2005. They had to win this tournament (or to participate at the Qualifier) as the Olympic champion is not automatically qualified.

COACH

Barry Dancer born in 1952 was a very successful hockey player with 48 international cups for Australia (1973 – 1979) He won the silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olymic Games and his team became third at the 1978 World Cup.

After he had finished his career as player he started to work for the Australian Institute of Sport. After three years working for English Hockey as head coach for the senior men team in 2001 he became head coach of the Austrlian senior men team winning with them the silver medal at the 2002 World Cup and the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
