Four Nations Tournament - Men -

Germany - Argentina   3 : 0 (0:0)

Sunday, April 16th 2006 - 15:00 in Monchengladbach

20 hours after their first match against India at the four nations tournament in Moenchengladbach the German team could gain their second victory. They beat Argentina 3:0. The team of Bernhard Peters again decided the match in the second half.

After a time of careful action on both sides it was Moritz Fuerste who gained the first penalty corner for Germany. An alternative to Justus Scharowsky to the left was blocked. The German Team put a lot of pressure into the game but couldn’t achieve a goal shot. The German defence did a good job with keeper Christian Schulte and Björn Emmerling who could hold against the first dangerous attack of the Argentineans (14.). After this action the Argentineans gained their first penalty corners. Carlos Retegui placed one just past the goal. In the 19th minute Christopher Zeller could have scored the first goal with the help of Justus Scharowsky but the shot missed the goal. Sebastian Draguhn had the next great chance as he tried to get a pass from Christopher Zeller but crashed and touched the ball with the body (25.). Seconds before the final whistle Christopher Zellers pass to Carlos Nevado was a bit too long.

A fast attack over the right side could have brought the German lead at the beginning of the second half (36.). Niklas Meinert flicked the ball from the seven meter point just left above the Argentinean goal. Finally the 2.350 spectators were rewarded with two goals in a row. Justus Scharowsky scored the first goal in the 37th minute with a shot from the right circle line. Another fast attack followed and Moritz Fürste could finish with a shot into the net (38.). Germany kept playing with a lot of pressure and the South American champion could hardly play its own game. The Argentineans gained their third penalty corner in the 43rd minute but Philipp Crone could clear. Long time nothing happened in front of both goals until Sebastian Draguhn passed the ball onto the crashing Philip Witte whose backhand block missed the empty goal by centimetres (62.). Christopher Zellers goal (65.) wasn’t accepted because of “dangerous play”. But minutes later Zeller passed a long ball to Carlos Nevado who hit the ball into the left side of the goal (67.). Argentina had the chance to reduce but Tomas Argento flicked the ball far over the goal.
