Sat., 15th of April - Mon. 17th of April 2006 (Mönchengladbach) Four Nations Tournament - Men - Argentina - Spain 0 : 1 (0:0) Saturday, April 15th 2006 - 16:00 in Monchengladbach In the opening game of the Four-Nations-Tournement at the Warsteiner HockeyPark the European champion Spain defeated South-American champion Argentina 1:0 (0:0). One converted penalty corner conducted from Ramon Alegre (43.) was enough for their victory. The best players on the pitch were the two keepers Francisco Cortes (Spain) and Juan Vivaldi, who avoided more goals with some great saves.
Both teams began the game quite cautious and played out of a safe defence. The Southamericans achieved their first penalty corner after five minutes but keeper Francisco Cortes had no struggle to avert Vilas´ flick. The next two chances were also those of the „Gauchos“. First a shot of Matias Paredes (12.) was blocked in the nick of time and later captain Orozco, freestanding in the circle, couldn´t shoot the ball properly (16.). As the result the Spanish got more and more proactive and had heaps of chances. First Xavier Ribas (26. und 28.) and Rodrigo Garza (30.) collapsed in keeper Vivaldi, then Pol Amat forgave a big chance out of a good position. Because of two more forgiven penalty corners (Ribas, 32. und Amat, 33.) the halftime result remained a goalless draw.
